At the request of VITO in Mol, my team and I developed an application that helps farmers monitor and manage their fields. The application calculates the risk of natural disasters and automatically completes the necessary insurance forms.
The application was developed using Java Spring Boot and Angular with a PostgreSQL database.
Additionally, a context-aware chatbot is integrated to support farmers in using the application. The chatbot answers questions, provides tailored advice, and guides users step by step through filling out forms or interpreting data.
We also developed a mobile application that guides farmers in taking photos of damage to their crops. These photos are automatically sent to the insurance company along with all the necessary damage information.
The insurer can use these images and data to assess claims and determine compensation.
If the evidence is insufficient, the insurer can mark specific locations in the field, after which the farmer is guided there to take additional photos.
The end result is an automatically completed PDF file that can be sent to the Flemish Disaster Fund.
In addition to the photos and damage data, the document also includes weather information from the period of the damage and relevant news reports from the region.
